I was born in Leamington Spa and
grew up in Kent. I studied art firstly at Canterbury College
of Art, and then at Camberwell School of Art. I then completed
a post graduate course at the Royal College of Art where
I studied textile design. Serendipitously, I now find
myself living close to where I was born and feel certain
that the oak trees and rolling fields that I observed
and remembered as a small child have an extra resonance
now that I paint them as an adult.
As a young graduate I spent several
years earning a living as a London based designer where
I sold hand painted silks and batiks to fashion designers
and framed panels in a similar genre.

Later in my career I took a year out to complete a PGCE
and went to teach in a local school where I became head
of art; a job I loved. By this time my work had changed
from pure textile design to mixed media pieces on canvas.
I eventually cut my teaching down to part time in order
to concentrate more fully on my work.
Following a house move to the borders of north Worcestershire
I started to paint landscapes. Its hard not to
respond to what is around me the changing natural
effects of climate, skies and seasons over land forms.

Nature
has always been the central theme of my work and, as clichéd
as it may sound, it continues to be my inspiration. It
has an inexhaustible richness and I want to use the infinite
variety of shapes and forms that I see around me and interpret
them in my own way.
I have exhibited work in London, Oxford and Birmingham
and have sold to private collectors in the UK. I am currently
jointly curating two exhibitions near Birmingham. |
