My engineering
background combined with years of enjoyable practise
at life class has led quite naturally to my current
preoccupation with sculpture of the human figure.
The key to successful
sculpture must surely be the creation of a sense of
feeling throughout. Constrained by the disciplines of
steel I need to transform the material to inject life
into surface and volume. I have learned from Botero
the possibilities to be exploited by laterally extending
the figure. I have followed Epstein and Matisse. Maillol
and Rodin are my constant support. Lucian Freud and
Jenny Saville are my contemporaries.
