|
| A graphic
artist by profession I now work within two main portfolios
apart from those moments of weakness when I succumb to
a need to indulge myself in a very occasional portrait.

| A lifelong interest
in Natural history with an emphasis on invertebrates provides
an endless opportunity for illustration. I am currently
working on a project of "Lepidoptera in landscape"
using watercolour and gouache, where I aim to combine
accuracy of detail in the subject within a more painterly
setting that exercises both skill and creativity for me. |

|
| In terms of creativity
my most important body of work is a semiotic abstract
series of pieces that I sometimes jokingly refer to as
"my genetically modified images". Inspired by
shapes from nature, musical icons and the human form.
I then try to orchestrate my observations including any
visual puns that come my way by the use of line. The original
draft is often a lineal composite in black on tinted watercolour
paper, some of which lend themselves to a limited print
format. Images are then developed as mixed media at a
larger scale where, if appropriate, I add a further dimension
by the use of texture, occasionally encouraging bits of
imagery to escape onto the frame. |
