What is it that makes an artist want to create?
For Jan, it's a variety of reasons. Handling the paint, the pastel or whatever the medium and exploring the richness of textures and colours can be incentive enough. But then there are the occasions when inspirational sights make the experience more stimulating and vital to express, when creating mood and atmosphere adds to the whole visual impact.

Her most recent collection of paintings about America, were based upon a journey she made across western America with her family last year. 'Shortcut to America' showed in Leicester during April 2008.

Trained and qualified in Sussex and Bournville School of Art, Jan now lives with her family in Solihull where she combines painting in her studio with her work as p/t tutor for Warwick University. She also holds private art workshops. Jan became an Associate Member of the RBSA in 2007 and is involved in a number of professional art organisations, including the Birmingham Pastel Society.
